In 2006, CORTA purchased 6.78 acres adjacent to Cooper Creek Tennis Center in hopes of building more courts.
CORTA, Columbus State University (CSU) and the Columbus Consolidated Government (City) joined forces to raise $9.4 million to expand Cooper Creek Tennis Center. The new complex includes 12 hard courts, 9 clay courts, and 4 – 60′ Quick Start courts. In addition, a clubhouse was constructed to house the CSU tennis teams and the CORTA offices.
The hard courts, also known as the John W. Walden Tennis Center, is one of the finest Division II tennis complexes in the country.
With the new expansion, Cooper Creek has once again positioned itself as one of the preeminent public tennis facilities in the nation. This expansion project greatly enhances CORTA’s ability to accommodate the fast growing leagues and also host tennis tournaments that have a significant economic impact on our community.
Donors can be secure in knowing that any donations made will be protected as a $1 million endowment has been established to supplement the maintenance of the new facility.
Funds are still being raised to support this project. As of February 2023, there is a balance of $170,000 needed.
CORTA is a non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by the law.
